i finally developed and scanned a few of my nyc rolls. there are still two more to go but they're 25 iso film so i need to figure out the proper developing times. all of the photos here were shot with a zeiss ikon + a zeiss biogon 35mm f/2 lens on either tri-x (normal and +1) and plus-x film.

look at all this stuff... consumption in the states is crazy. these store windows make me laugh.

apparently people like to chill on the sidewalk beside the street by themselves in times square. either on chairs or just on the street itself.

the next photo will explain what these people are waving at.

there was a giant screen projecting a live video of the street. i'm in there somewhere with my parents and aunt and uncle.

we made our way into union station. i really enjoyed making photos there. we have a union station in toronto too but it's not as nice. it's not ugly or anything but the new york version is a little more classic. people were either running or waiting. this photo shows both.

this is kind of a required photo in new york. these things were everywhere. i think they look pretty cool visually. smoke usually does. but i think they look especially cool because of their size. you can see how big they are in comparison to the people crossing the street. i remembered seeing severin's photo of this in his new york series and i was remembering back when i saw it in front of me.

i had an amazing lunch at this restaurant's salad bar. i think it was my last meal in nyc before we went back to toronto. left with a great meal and a nice photo.

you could make a series out of the odd jobs people have in nyc. i wonder if anyone pays attention to these signs anyways? it must bring some business if it's worth paying someone to stand there all day. i never saw a single person look at the sign while i was there though. i'm not sure people would really approach the dude holding it to ask a question either.

i loved the vendors nyc had. pretzels are one of my favorite snacks and we don't have pretzel vendors in toronto. i ate as many as i could, even for $5 which is what they were selling for in times square. i didn't buy anything from nuts4nuts. kind of a sketchy name.

this guy was dozing in and out of sleep. i would too. i can imagine how boring/draining it would be to hold a sign all day.

making street photos in nyc was so much fun. i went there with my mom, dad and my uncle and cousin from hungary for two days. we wanted to show them new york while they were visiting us because it was their first time in north america. honestly, shooting street there was amazing because people don't care if you take their photo. they are probably so used to it that they just go on with their lives and don't pay much attention to any cameras. everyone is making photos of something and it's so fast paced (especially in times square) that people just don't react to the camera. it was really cool... toronto's quite different in that sense so it was a nice change.

this park was really cool. i forget its name but they had this book shelf that people could just grab a book/magazine from and read. i thought it was a nice concept. don't think we have these in toronto either. i've never come across one at least.

we were learning about counter-monuments in class the other day. this kind of goes along well with that topic. kind of strange to put a monument on the ground that people step on with muddy shoes...
